In Guatemala

This is my fourth day in Guatemala. I arrived on Tuesday and have been enjoying being here already. It took me a total of five hours flying time to get here and the flight was pretty normal. Guatemala is so different yet the same in many ways. The city is crowed and teeming with people, cars, animals and everything else. Lee and Sherri Richenbach picked Maria Hunsaker and I up at the airport in Guatemala city. Guatamala City is about 2 hours away from Jalapa where they live. So while we were there we went shopping at the stores there to pick up some supplies.

The stores here are not much different than our Wal-Mart. You can buy almost anything here that you can buy in the states. We saw a Sears, Pay-less shoes and many other American stores there as well. Yet when you drive through the city there are so many people. The houses are more cement blocks and different style than we are used to. The streets are dirtier, too. People dress in many of the same styles that we see in America. So thats what I mean by Guatemala is the same and yet different.

We drove to Jalapa which is smaller town where the school is located. Maria and I have been observing at the school for a few days now. We are seeing the schedule of things and how they are run. Annie Brinkman is here as well and is helping to teach at the school for about 3 months. The kids are so cute. There are ten kids in the school. I just want to hug them all. The school is mostly done all in English so the kids are learning English well. They get a kick of saying a few phrases in English though they understand a lot of what you are saying when you talk in English.

This Saturday, Maria and I are going to be going to Antigua to start language school. I am excited about starting to learning English. We will be there for three months with a break in the middle of that. It should be interesting. I will be posting more when I get time and posting some pictures as well.

I enjoyed the photos you put on Facebook and your note here. Greetings to Maria. I just caught up with her blog, too, though I didn't leave a comment. I hope all goes will in language school for both of you.

Hey, good update. I really like the pictures. That little girl is so cute!!! I showed Justin the picture of the lizard and he wanted to know if you caught it. I said probably not; she was probably just taking a picture of it. He would have wanted it for sure!
