The Nut Farm and other crazy things.....

Guatemala is so facinating. I wish I could bring everyone here and let them see what it is like here. Its so different than the states. One thing I do like about it is the weather (most of the time). Its been raining for the last couple of days straight. Its probably in the 60's most of the time. There are a couple of volcano's near by but you can only see one from where we live. It is called the water volcano because there is a lake inside and one time when it went off a long time ago, it flooded the town. But I think its no longer active. The other one is the fire volcano and it is further away. This volcano is called Pacanya. It is still active. The water volcano is the one you can really see well on a clear day. Yesterday the clouds were heavy then it cleared up, it looked like the volcano was appearing and disapearing. It was really cool.

I have been studying spanish here for a week now. I think I am getting the hang of a few words here and there. Its a lot harder than it looks. One cool thing is that the school takes field trips sometimes. Yesterday, we went to a Macadamian Nut Farm. Guatemala is one of the biggest producers of these kinds of nuts. It was facinating. We got to taste some of the nuts and the chocolate they make. They even make oils, creams and make-up from the nuts. Nuts, huh? (Sorry bad pun intended) This has been the only field trip so far.

There have been some other interesting things happen here. For instance, the goverment shuts off the water at nights. So you have do everything that requires water beforehand or else... This usually happens around 9-10. We have had lots of rain here and something happened to the pipes the other nights. So the water got turned off at 8:30. Needless to say, some people were not happy campers. Just yesterday, the we didn't have water in the morning for some reason. Just some interesting things that happen in other countries. Well, enough for now. I will try to keep my blog updated.

Ahh...glad to see you're still in the land of the living! Sounds like Guatemala is a beautiful place. Maybe I will try to visit someday, who knows! Hope the Spanish studies are going well! Love ya!

Mark has no room to talk! ha ha

I love macadamia nuts and I love chocolate so I would have enjoyed that field trip!

And no, I wouldn't enjoy the water being cut off like that. I guess you will have to quit being a night owl huh.

Praying for you! Thanks for keeping us updated!
