Comebacks Sure Are Sweet!

I have to say this was a hectic but good week. This spring weather has been great. I think it even got up in the 80's one day. Spring has finally arrived. It has been really nice! The kids in my class are getting spring fever and I think that I am catching it to. We have spent a lot time outside lately because of the nice days. We try to do homework, read or have free time outside. When my class is inside they tend to be bounce off the walls. I can understand the feelings. Spring is in the air!

This weekend has been what I called a Rook weekend and I have loved it. Though, after so much Rook, I think I am a bit Rooked out, if thats a word. On Friday, there was a small gathering for Vern since he is leaving for Alaska soon. We had pizza and other various un-healthy but great food. Then we got to playing Rook. It was mosly the Matlock/Spear family and they love Rook. But they play Rook very weird. ( I say mostly bitterly.) They play Rook low, no points in the middle, and only one card in the kitty. I guess when in Rome do as the Romans do, no matter how strange you think it is. But we did have fun. I think we coined some new Rook terminology. "Vern Moments", "Duncan Deals", and "Missionary Moments." Vern Moments- when Vern threw off a 1 (Big points) to me who was not his partner. A real dunderhead move. "Duncan Deals"- When asked to cut the deck, lets just say I cut with about 10 piles of cards and practically re-deal (Much to David Matlock's shagrin :) ) Missionary Moments- I just plain can't count cards. Sad for a teacher! So when someone can't count cards or missdeals its one of these. We had fun playing 4 and 6 player Rook.

And tonight's triumph! Cindy and I went over to Steve and Mark's house. They had us over for brunch and had grilled chicken. It was delicious. Then we played a ton of Rook. Mark and I won 9 out of ten games. It was a great triumph. We were losing but now we are up by 3 games now. Don't feel to sorry for Steve and Cindy. Last time when Mark and I lost 4 games, boy were they bragging and boasting. Its amazingly silent now. I guess victory sure can be sweet. I guess I better not brag to much cause next time it might be different. It has been fun hanging out with Steve, Mark, and Cindy. I'm going to be sad when this fun breaks up this summer. Therehave been some great memories. Need I say, the unlucky Green Nine or the Great Comeback, or Mark's bidding. LOL

I can't believe we are almost into May. I have 3 weeks left of school and then I will be done teaching. This year has flown by so fast. Its unbelieveable! So much has happened just over the last year and a half. I have not been teaching for 18 months and now its getting close to me going over to the mission field. Its incredible how God has led and helped me. He has helped me in my teaching and in my traveling for the missions. God has supplied my every need and sometimes a want or two. He really is so good. I'm looking forward to how God will lead me further.

Jeremiah 29:11- I know the plans for you I have for you, declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The "missionary moment" was the weirdest phrase ..... I guess... like the price of eggs in China huh

Hadn't heard "Duncan deals" ... now that one is funny! I must have left by that time. I think y'all were getting sillier as it got later! LOL

I hate it that your little "singles group" will be splitting up before too long. I am so glad you have enjoyed each others' company! I know Cindy and Steve will really be mourning since they will be left all alone here in Bedford!

It sure was a sweet take-down. I don't think the cousins are over it yet :-)

Hi! I just found your blog. (Looking at blogs is my relaxation after I get my 3 =) kids to bed.) You idea about having classes for shorter sermons is hilarious. How about "Concise Speaking 101" or "Preaching to the Attention Span Challenged Adult"?

My parents played Rook a lot when I was a kid, and we young 'uns were always doing something else. I guess I ought to learn the game, eh?

I hope that "missionary moment" wasn't too derogatory!
